Protoss micro

Use micro to complement the AI of you little cutie pies ^-^. The unit AI is not perfect and will have I have found that aspects affected are at least path finding and targeting.

Colossai have a very tiny brain compared to their size. They will always try to shoot buildings instead of units (targeting) and get stuck (path finding). ;__; However, colossus can walk up cliffs and have a long range. This should be utilized.

Pure stalker army micro is to attack and retreat, continuously.

Before attacking
  • Put zealots in front
  • Put low-health units in the back of your army
  • Arrange your units in a quick concave
  • Protoss death ball: various units countering many others, colossus protected from all sides

During an attack
  • Attack armored units with immortals
  • Attack clumped groups of units with colossai (AoE 2.8 x 0.3). Do not attack buildings with colossai.
Put units taking damage to back of you army
  • With stalkers kite: marines, slow roaches, zealots
  • FF enemy ramp to prevent reinforcements
  • An exposed colossus is a dead colossus
  • Move HTs back after storms to keep them alive, morph to archons when energy runs out
  • Move sentries back after zealots have died
  • With the interceptor upgrade, carriers can launch their interceptors and move away from the enemy
  • Move guardians shield sentry with zealots to decrease ranged damage

Defending at ramps
  • Form a concave at the top of the ramp
  • Cut opponents army into bite-size pieces
  • Put your zealots on hold
  • Against blink stalkers ff the top of the ramp bacause htye get visibility from bottom to middle but not from middle to top
--> put the army on hold - cut opponent with ff - attack move?

When chasing an enemy
  • pull zealots back to prevent kiting
  • shoot, move closer, shoot, with stalkers

  When running from an enemy
  • when retreating use ff:s to allow safe escape

Killing of a turttling base
  • Attack static defences with high range units, such as colossus with range

Micro against Zerg
The goal is to allow majority of you units to attack while only few zerg units attack
  • against speedlings keep our units in a tight ball and zealots close to stalkers
  • attack through constricted pathways
  • cut coach & hydra armies to bites size unit groups with ffs
  • when good ff:s do not allow zealots to attack
  • attack small size units with colossus - more units per colossus damage area
  • do not attack broodlings but actual units
  • against mutalisk put ½ army to main minerals, ½ to natural minerals
  • use guardian shield against mutas
  • if also zerglings target mutas with stalkers, do not allow them to fight zerglings (zealots
  • clawless roaches can not unburrow if ff is on top of them
  • put zealots in places where they cano not be surrounded (i.e. between mineral patches)

Micro against Terran
  • Prevent concaves with ff
  • guardian shield against marines
  • if no medivacs, try to force stims
  • spread sentries and templars against ghosts
  • observed in front of army will prevent cloak emps
  • if sieged tanks, put immortals in front of zealots
  • guardian shield before attack
  • stagger high templar arrivals (~1s interval)
  • prevent mass repairs with ff behind bunkers & planetary fortresses
  • storm mass repairing scvs

Micro against Protoss
  • Spread your colossus to prevent one splash from opponent colossus to hit 2 of yours
  • Spread units to prevent colossus splash

--> to do these micros you need to have good control groups for your units!!!

Good ways to practice different types of micro with one unit at a time are to play against AI with just one unit, or to play monobattles.
